Sejaan Azzi, a former minister of labor in Lebanon, passed away on Thursday at the age of 71 following a protracted illness, according to those who knew him. Additionally, the government-run National News Agency reported on his passing.
Bechara al-Rai, the patriarch of the Maronites, reportedly paid a bedside visit to Azzi on Thursday morning at the Rizk-LAU Medical Center in Ashrafieh’s intensive care unit.
In Tammam Salam’s government in 2014, Azzi, who was close to the Maronite patriarchate, was named Minister of Labor. In addition, he served as Sami Gemayel’s advisor and the vice president of the Kataeb party.
This former journalist was born in Okaybeh, Kesrouan, in 1952, and holds degrees in political and administrative sciences from St. Joseph University and philosophy from Kaslik’s Holy Spirit University.
He was a member of the Kataeb party in his teens. He established Radio Liban Libre in 1985.
