Will You Use Twitters New Music App?

Two months after releasing its video sharing platform Vine, Twitter will reportedly debut a new music app. CNET reports that Twitter may release the app on iOS by the end of this month.

The heavily populated music-discovery and sharing market (see: Spotify, Pandora) will have to make room for Twitter, which looks to capitalize off its 170 million plus registered users. Twitter Music plans to incorporate the brand’s recently acquired music service We Are Hunted and will suggest artists and songs to listen to based on which accounts a user follows on Twitter.

Users will be able to stream music via Soundcloud from four tabs the site has delegated for the new app. A “Suggested” tab will recommend songs and artists, based on who you’re following and who your friends are following. The “#NowPlaying” tab will show you songs that are being tweeted with that hashtag by people you follow. Its “Emerging” tab will include up-and-coming artists and their work, while the “Popular” tab will show songs that are trending on We Are Hunted.

The move to add a music aspect to the site comes shortly after rival Facebook unveiled its fresh Newsfeed, and Google is also reportedly looking to develop a subscription music service of its own.
